Clerk

If you've ever seen the House in action from the public gallery, or watched the live television broadcast of a sitting, you may have noticed two black-robed individuals sitting at a table in front of the Speaker on the floor of the House. They are the Clerks-At-The-Table, non-partisan officials who advise the Speaker and members on parliamentary procedure.

Chief permanent officer

As the chief permanent officer of the House, the Clerk of the Legislative Assembly records the decisions of the House and publishes them in the Journals of the Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island. The Journals are the official record of the decisions and actions of the Legislative Assembly.

The Clerk is also responsible for collecting and preserving the documents presented in the House, and provides administrative support to the Speaker, the House, and members. The Clerk serves as the secretary to the Standing Committee on Legislative Management, which oversees the operation of the House.

The Office of the Clerk also includes staff that support the work of the members and the Assembly, providing procedural guidance to Standing Committees, security for the staff and members, and human resources administration.
