About Hansard
Hansard is a division of the Legislative Assembly and is responsible for providing accurate transcription of legislative proceedings, including House sittings and legislative committees. We are seeking a Hansard Transcriber to join our team. Applicants must be non-partisan.
Job summary
Hansard Transcribers work in a non-partisan environment, accurately transcribing legislative debates and committee meetings from audio recordings using specialized software, with other related tasks as needed. The ideal candidate has experience in transcription, an understanding of legislative terminology, strong auditory and grammar skills, and exceptional attention to detail.
Key responsibilities
- Transcribe audio recordings of legislative debates and committee hearings into accurate written records.
- Edit and proofread transcripts for clarity, grammar, and context, ensuring that transcripts are transcribed and formatted according to Hansard style guidelines.
- Meet strict deadlines for delivering transcriptions.
- Collaborate with other transcribers and editors to ensure high-quality results.
- Stay updated on legislative terminology and proceedings to ensure accurate transcription.
Qualifications
- A minimum typing speed of 60 WPM is required.
- Experience in Hansard transcription or a related field is considered an asset.
- Excellent command of the English language, including grammar, punctuation, and spelling.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Ability to work under tight deadlines and manage time effectively.
- Strong listening skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Familiarity with parliamentary procedures, legislative terminology, and formal language is considered an asset.
Terms of employment
- Casual, daytime
- Full time when the Assembly meets
- Charlottetown, PEI
- $21.98/hour
- Anticipated start in August/September 2024
