Order of PEI Advisory Council
What does the Advisory Council do?
The Order of Prince Edward Island Advisory Council was created under the Provincial Emblems and Honours Act and tasked with the annual selection of up to three candidates for investiture in the Order.
Following the close of the nomination period, the Advisory Council meets weekly to consider all nominees, collectively voting on the final candidates to recommend to the President of Executive Council.
Who is on the Advisory Council?
The membership of the Advisory Council is set up in legislation, under the Provincial Emblems and Honours Act, and is a mix of ex officio and community appointments:
- ex officio members are people who hold specific offices, and those offices are named in legislation as part of the membership of the Advisory Council.
- community members represent the three Island counties and are appointed to the Advisory Council by the Lieutenant Governor following their application through Engage PEI.
Ex officio members serve on the Advisory Council for as long as they hold the office, and community members serve for three years, and are eligible for reappointment for a further three years.
