Library and Research Service
The collection serves Members and House staff by providing access to the Journals of the Legislative Assembly, Acts of Prince Edward Island, government documents, annual reports, and sessional papers of the legislature. The library is also an access point for the public to view documents tabled in the legislature, which are posted on the Assembly's website for easy access.
Re-established by the Legislative Management Committee in 2007, the current Legislative Library officially opened on May 22, 2008.
Research service
The Research Service undertakes non-partisan research at the request of standing committees and individual Members and is equally available to all Members of the Legislative Assembly. Members are encouraged to consult with researchers on a variety of research needs, such as:
- Background research on issues brought forward by constituents
- Background research toward the drafting of a bill, motion or statement
- Summaries of other jurisdictions’ legislation on a given issue
- Retrieval of information or statistics from provincial offices and external agencies
- Written reports and oral presentations to committees
- Information gathering for conference presentations
- Other forms of research
We will do our best to find and compile the information you are looking for and relay it in a clear and concise manner. In general, requests from committees take precedence over requests from individual Members, but researchers work with your deadline as closely as possible.
Individual Members’ research requests are confidential. If government offices or external agencies must be consulted, only relevant information is provided to ensure an accurate answer. The name of the Member making the request is never shared, and neither is their party affiliation nor legislative role.
For any research request, we reserve the right to refer to the determination of the Clerk of the Legislative Assembly on whether the request is appropriate.
