The Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island is currently seeking applications for the position of Child and Youth Advocate. This role serves as a voice for Island children and youth and is committed to ensuring their interests and well-being are respected and valued in the community, in government practice, and in policy and legislation.
Key Responsibilities
The Advocate is responsible for promoting and protecting the rights, interests, and well-being of children and youth, particularly in relation to reviewable services, by providing advocacy, education, representation, monitoring, and supporting research and collaboration with various stakeholders. The detailed duties and responsibilities of the Advocate are outlined in the Child and Youth Advocate Act.
Qualifications
university degree in social work, social sciences, or law. Preference will be given to candidates with a master's degree and additional training in child and youth welfare;
significant professional experience working directly with children, youth, and their families;
significant experience working at a senior management level in the provision of programs and services to children and families;
knowledge of Indigenous cultures and Indigenous child welfare issues;
awareness of challenges and barriers faced by culturally diverse children and youth in accessing support and services;
demonstrated ability to motivate and lead teams;
excellent communication and media skills;
acceptable Criminal Record Check, Vulnerable Sector Check, and Child Protection Record Check.
