Oath Ceremony at Legislative Building for New Independent Child and Youth Advocate

Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, July 13, 2020 – On May 26, 2020 the Legislative Assembly unanimously approved a motion for the appointment of Mr. Marvin M. Bernstein as the first Child and Youth Advocate in the Province. This independent officer position is non-partisan and serves important roles in assisting the Legislative Assembly in providing government oversight. 

Prior to assuming the role the new Advocate must swear an oath as contained in Section 9 of the Child and Youth Advocate Act by the Clerk of the Legislative Assembly. Mr. Bernstein’s appointment to the Legislature proclaims this Act. 

The media are invited to attend this ceremony on the steps of the Honourable George Coles Building as per below. If inclement weather, the ceremony will be held in the hallway on the main floor Coles building.
