The Commission is made up of three individuals appointed by the Speaker to review the salary and benefits provided to Members of the Legislative Assembly and to report their decisions to the legislature. During its review, the Commission asks for public input and gathers research on, among other items, economic indicators and information on benefits provided in other Canadian legislatures.
The Commission is independent of the Legislative Assembly and Commissioners serve until the end of the General Assembly in which they were appointed. The decisions in their annual reports are binding on the legislature.
The Indemnities & Allowances Commission is established under Sections 53 and 54 of theLegislative Assembly Act (PDF).
