Ombudsperson and Public Interest Disclosure Commissioner
The Office of the Ombudsperson and the Public Interest Disclosure Commissioner are impartial and independent offices of the legislature.
The Ombudsperson promotes fairness and acts as a bridge between the people of PEI and the public sector. The office was established by the Ombudsperson Act with the power and authority to investigate complaints about fairness in process, treatment and decision-making by public agencies.
The Public Interest Disclosure Commissioner provides a safe avenue for PEI’s public sector employees (and former employees in certain cases) to submit complaints of wrongdoing or reprisal occurring in their workplace. The office was established by the Public Interest Disclosure and Whistleblower Protection Act.
